In present times, with our very short span of attention & our grossly superficial approach (craze for only ‘quick and brief overview’), we are motivated to go straight to actionable / doable – kind of crisp 4 bullet point plan about ‘how to walk the talk of Gnaan Yog’. Well, here it is…(In brackets, Shloka Numbers of 2nd Chapter of BG)

FOUR TECHNIQUES / FOUR STEP PLAN to implement Gnaan Yog in day-to-day life.

1. Aligning thoughts-words-actions: Become aware about disconnect that we have in these three. We think we know everything; we speak critically/judgementally about others and act like as if we are smartest in hiding our stupidities. Bridging gaps in thoughts, words and action is application of Gnaan Yog. ( 2.11 – talking like wise and acting otherwise)

2. Control impulsive reactions and be firm and strong – Look beyond sense stimulations and our subjective reactions/feelings to external ever-changing situations. Know that any external things / situations are always changing and are NEVER under our control. Internally remaining unshakably stable is application of Gnaan Yog. ( 2.14 , 2.15 where Lord Krishna instructs Arjuna to be stable/firm internally for his real growth)

3. Shift focus from Gross to Subtle – We can cultivate deepening of our understanding and awareness by looking “beyond/beneath” what is appearing otherwise as obvious. Becoming less impulsive and less reactive creates calmness to see “deeper reality”.  Learning to see underlying Truth is application of Gnaan Yog. (2.30 – shifting focus from body to soul)

4. Acting as per our place and position – Discharging duty in accordance with our place and position is the MASTER technique and fastest way to grow. But instead, when its difficult, we blame others/ destiny and manipulate / run away from doing what is right and needed. Our duty is always obvious and always right in front of us. Righty and timely doing DUTY as per our place and position is application of Gnaan Yog. ( 2.31 to 2.38 )

So, seemingly difficult topic of Gnaan Yog is easily ‘attemptable’. Consistency and sincerity are the keys like any other self-empowerment endeavor. Will write notes on Karma Yog next…in few days maybe…
