PERSPECTIVES
We observed crux of learning for self growth enthusiast from arjuna’s conversation in 1st Chapter.
What else is there to learn from 1st chapter ? A lot more I think…
Usually, in present populous norm, there is excessive detailing / telling what to think ( almost hard selling ) based on view point of the speaker/ preacher. What is less attended is the building perspective for thinking. Learning HOW to think is more important than some one telling WHAT to think.
This is what happens when we explore PERSPECTIVES… I personally tend to see 1st chapter as it opens up various ways to understand the text… various perspectives that are there encrypted subtly, under the skin of obvious interpretation.
Though the TRUTH proclaimed in the text remains the Truth, we can really see the unambiguous aspect with conviction only when we learn to see it from different point of view / perspectives…
Let’s look at some of the perspectives to learn from 1st chapter that I could learn from various sources…
1. Historical and Social – Obvious story narration and documenting conversation as it happened and the equations that played out in past before the war and its impact. 2. Psychological – loaded with psychological insights based on eastern treatment of construction of mind. 3. Symbolic – Interestingly , every name has symbolically indicated certain tendency / pattern, and this very interesting part makes us understand that ‘the war’ in the internal world. Detailed treatment by shri adgadanand is worth noting. 4. Non tangible perspective – based on prana sharir and subtle qualities of chakras, naadis, prana, and mahabhootas…5. Implementation / application oriented – Here one looks at all the principles from an individual’s pattern / situation point of view and arrives at what can be executed in one’s own day to day life.
So these five perspectives, when comprehended collectively, the learning and the depth of learning shall surely increase… just a self reminder, not to expect readymade answers while referring to various expert commentaries, and one should attempt to focus on broadening the horizon of the understanding in order to appreciate the depth of the concept.
On the flip side, these perspectives also ends up in ‘Oh ho‘ kind of feeling and just treated at intellectual stimulation level…. this needs to be avoided with self vigil. But to broaden the perspective of the study, listing perspectives should help…
Stay tuned… details some other time..
